Blackjack is a traditional casino card game where you play against the dealer. Although it is a game of chance, you can still play with some strategy to help you on your way to winning.
The game objective is to get your card value equal to 21 or closer to 21 than the dealer. Any card hands which go over 21 will go bust and lose.
Cards are each assigned a number, cards 2-10 are all face value, Jack, Queen, and King equal ten and Ace can equal either 1 or 11.
When the round begins, you will be dealt two cards face up, and the dealer will play two cards, one face up and one face down. Now depending on what your cards are will decide how you’ll want to play:
If your two cards add up to 21, e.g. an Ace and a king, then you already have Blackjack and win the round! However, if the dealer also has Blackjack, the game ends in a tie.
If your 2-card value still isn’t close to 21, you can choose to draw another card. You can draw as many extra cards as you like unless you go over 21, in which you will lose or go bust.
When the dealer reveals their face-down card, they must stick with any total above 17 or hit any total when it’s below 17. You can win If the dealer goes bust or your hand is closer to 21.
Here are some common phrases you might hear while playing Blackjack online:
Blackjack: A winning hand of “21.”
Stick: When you are happy with your total but haven’t got 21, you can choose to stick, you will have to rely on your hand being closer to 21 than the dealers, or they can also go bust for you to get the win.
Hit: When you request an extra card, try to get closer to 21.
Bust: When the total amount of cards exceeds 21, your hand is bust and you lose that round.
Fold: When you don’t want to carry on playing the round, you can choose to fold.
Insurance: A side bet where you can bet on the dealer having Blackjack. Buying Insurance is usually 2 to 1 odds, so you would get your wager amount back if you win.
