Poker requires at least two or more players for the game to begin. The game starts with two compulsory bets: the small blind and the big blind. Players participating will take turns paying these bets to the table, ensuring there’s always a prize pot for every round.
Once two players pay the blinds, the dealer will give every player two cards face down. These private cards should be kept to yourself and will only be revealed depending on your actions.
Round 1 – The Pre Flop
In the first round, also known as the Pre Flop, players get a chance to see their two private cards and continue playing the game based on the following three actions:
Call – When you call, you want to advance into the next round in the game. You must match the big blind wager to progress to the next round.
Raise – When you raise, you increase the wager amount for this round. If other players want to continue to the next round, they must match the new raised bet. Alternatively, they can raise it again or continue with the 3rd action and fold.
Fold – If you don’t like the look of your hand, you can choose to fold, forfeiting the rest of the game.
The next player will have the same option until everyone on the table has made their action.
Round 2 – The Flop
The Flop is when the dealer deals three community cards to the middle of the table. Every player can now use their own two private cards and the three community cards to form a poker hand. You can decide again whether to call, raise or fold.
Round 3 – The Turn
The next round is called the turn, and the dealer will now reveal another community card. You currently have two private cards and four community cards to create your 5 card poker hand. You can check, raise or fold like the Flop and turn rounds.
Round 4 – The River
The final River round begins, and the last community card is revealed. Any remaining players can make their final 5-card poker hand out of their two private cards and five community cards.
This river round plays similarly to the Flop and Turn rounds. After the final round, the remaining players will reveal their private two cards, and whoever has the best hand wins!
Poker is a game against a table of players, and whoever has the strongest hand wins. In Poker, cards are ranked in the following order from lowest to highest:
No Pair: Cards have no relation; your hand value depends on your highest value card.
Pair: You have two cards of the same value.
Two Pairs: You have two pairs of cards of the same value,
Three of a kind: You have three cards of the same value but different suits.
Flush: You have five cards of the same suit but not in any order.
Straight: 5 cards in numerical sequence but not the same suit.
Four of a kind: You have four cards of the same number but different suits.
Straight Flush: 5 cards in numerical sequence and also of the same suit.
Royal Flush: The highest possible ranking, a straight flush of the highest value cards “10, Jack, Queen, King and Ace.”
